Allstate Canada Reveals Community Heroes in their Midst

New program highlights outstanding volunteerism among Allstate Agents

Markham, October 14, 2014 —Allstate Insurance Company of Canada is proud to announce the winners of the first annual Allstate Canada Community Hero program. The Community Hero program was created to recognize Allstate Canada agents for their efforts in the areas of volunteerism, outreach and outcomes that demonstrate their work has helped to strengthen their local community’s social fabric. The award highlights nominees from across the country where Allstate Canada Agencies are located and a national Allstate Community Hero is selected from among the finalists.

“It was an honour to be part of the process to select our finalists and our first ever Community Hero,” said John O’Donnell, President and CEO of Allstate Insurance Company of Canada. “Our nominees clearly shared a passion for the greater good as well as sustained service to their respective communities.  They exemplify our corporate values and consider giving back as an act unto itself because it’s the right thing to do.”

This year’s Community Hero program rewards agents based on charitable work undertaken during 2013.  Finalists for this award and the Community Hero winner are selected by a special committee from a pool of nominees.

The winner of the inaugural Allstate Community Hero Award is:

Jeff Spidell, Agency Manager, Allstate Fredericton (Fredericton, NB):
Jeff earned this award for his involvement in a myriad of initiatives in the Fredericton area. In 2013 Jeff:

  • Designed a strategic plan for the local MADD chapter. This plan devised fundraising activities that ran a surplus for the organization.
  • Helped drive the fundraising – from signature events such as Campaign 911, Strides for Change walks’ and MADD candlelight vigils.
  • Supported the Pine Grove nursing home through the Fredericton agency’s sponsorship of the annual Festival of Lights where businesses buy Christmas trees, decorate them and position them adjacent to the nursing home so residents can enjoy them.
  • Supported the National Ride for Dad, a national motorcycle ride to raise money in support of prostate cancer, Junior Achievement, the Big Brother/Sister program, Movember, toy drives and other causes and fundraisers

For his efforts, Allstate Canada will donate $2,000 in Jeff’s name to the charity of his choice in the Fredericton area.

The finalists for the inaugural Allstate Community Hero Award are:

Ray Eady, Agency Manager, Allstate Cornwall (Cornwall, ON):
Ray participated in fundraising for Crime Stoppers, Boys & Girls Clubs of Canada and MADD Canada. He also volunteered with Operation Red Nose and Bikers Against Brain Cancer and serves on boards for a variety of local organizations, including Kinsmen Cornwall.

Nissim Kehimkar, Agent, Allstate Thornhill (Thornhill, ON):
Nissim is heavily involved in a number of York Region organizations: United Way, Jewish Family & Child services, the York Region Police Department and sits as vice-president on the Disera Drive Association.

Nicole Madden, Agency Manager, Allstate Niagara (Niagara, ON):
Nicole sponsors several local schools by organizing year-end BBQs and book fairs and is very active with her local minor hockey team. She has been instrumental in establishing a local MADD chapter and participates each year in a fundraising event for Project SHARE - a non-profit, multiservice agency that helps residents living below the poverty line.

Terri Meadows, Agency Manager, Allstate Williamsburg Town Centre (Kitchener, ON):
Each year, Terri volunteers with the local food bank, MADD chapter, the Power of Hope Foundation at Christmas and donates winter coats to community members in need. She also sponsors two local minor hockey leagues and the girl’s rep soccer team.

Carmine Venditti, Agency Manager, Allstate St. Léonard  (Montreal, QC):
Carmine supports the community Leonardo-da-Vinci Centre, the local high school Action Against Distraction campaign and acts as a key spokesperson for safety with the Montreal Police Department, school boards, parents and teachers and the local newspaper.

For being named as finalists, Allstate Canada will make a donation of $500 to a charity of these agents’ choice within their community.

Allstate Canada is honoured to make these donations on behalf of these men and women to further support the passion for engaging others in their communities for the greater good.

“These ‘community heroes’ are role models who have made an impact and will continue to do so because they all live Allstate’s corporate values by providing strength, experience and care to those in their communities who need it,” said O’Donnell. “Earning this recognition and the donation that comes with it highlights the fact that being active in your community reaps continual benefits and enriches the lives of others in the communities where we all live and work.”

Congratulations once again to this esteemed group!
