Coverage for Students Away at School
Have a student headed off to university or college? Now is the perfect time to consider extra coverage for your scholar. Whether your child is moving into residence for the first time or renting, consider how much it would cost to replace everything they own if it were stolen or damaged. The cost of laptops, cellphones, iPods and other valuables can quickly add up.
Your home insurance policy likely covers your children while they are full-time students living away from home in residence. However, your children may need tenant insurance if they’ve decided to rent or if they are leaving the nest and moving away from your home permanently. They may also need additional insurance for large ticket items that they take with them.
Talk to your Allstate agent to determine the coverage they need and to discuss liability, as students can be held liable for the safety of visitors or damage to their apartment. Don’t forget to ask about Allstate’s Student Coverage which includes:
- loss or damage to school property on loan to a student
- living and/or moving expenses incurred as a result of loss or damage to residence
- missed exams and tuition fees as a result of illness and injury
- emergency travel home due to injury, illness or death of immediate family member
